How the academic year is divided and how study is measured in credits.
The academic year runs in two semesters. Each course carries a credit value that reflects the total study time it expects — contact hours in class and laboratory, plus the independent work around them.
A student progresses by accumulating credits rather than by passing a fixed list of examinations, which is what makes a transfer between programmes, and recognition of study done elsewhere, possible to assess fairly.
The number of credits required for an award, and the minimum and maximum a student may take in one semester, are set in the study regulations.
