Welcome to Bayan University. Whether you have arrived here as a prospective student, as a parent weighing a decision with your family, as a colleague from another institution, or simply as a visitor curious about what happens on this campus, this is the standing welcome of the President's Office.
The university you are looking at
Bayan is a private university in Erbil, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It teaches in three colleges — the College of Engineering and Science, the College of Law and International Relations, and the College of Business and Economics — and in the departments beneath them: Computer Science and English Language; Law and International Relations; Accounting, Business Administration and Banking & Finance.
That is a deliberately compact list. Bayan would rather teach a small number of subjects properly than a long list thinly, and each department exists because the work it prepares people for is work this region needs done well. What each one teaches, and the level it awards, is set out on its own page under Programs.
What a degree here asks of you
A university education is not a service delivered to a seated audience. It is something a student does, with help.
- Attend, and arrive having done the reading
- Argue with what you are taught — in the seminar, not after the result is published
- Write in your own words, and say where an idea came from
- Ask early when something is not working, rather than in the last week of term
What this office undertakes in return
- Teaching by people who are held to the standard they hold you to
- Rules that are written down before they are applied, not after
- A route of appeal a student can use without fear of consequence

Writing to the office
The President's Office reads correspondence addressed to it on matters that concern the university as a whole: a serious complaint that other channels have not resolved, an offer of collaboration, an invitation.
