A visiting appointment brings an academic from another institution to teach a block of a course, serve as an external examiner, or work with a research group here for an agreed period.
Invitations come from a department with a specific purpose and a named course or project, and are approved by the college and the university. The International Relations Office handles the practical side: the invitation letter, entry formalities, accommodation and the schedule.
Departments interested in hosting a visitor should raise it a full semester ahead — the approvals and the entry paperwork are the slow part, not the teaching.
